Pesche – Cv diverse
Description:
the main varieties grown in Piedmont are:
- yellow flesh: Vista Rich, Rome Star, Glohaven, Redhaven, Flavorcrest and Elegant Lady;
- white flash: Michelini, Maria Bianca and Rosa del West.
Origin:
the peach tree is native of China, later introduced in Persia (hence the name) and in the Mediterranean basin.
The fruit:
round and fleshy drupe. The skin is velvety and the color varies from yellow-red to pinkish-cream. The pulp is, depending on the variety, yellow or white with red veins more evident in the vicinity of the core which may be adherent to the pulp (peaches duracine) or non-adherent (peaches spiccagnole).
Maturation:
July 1 – September 10
Flavor:
the fleshy and juicy fruit has a very sweet and fragrant pulp, crisp or soft depending on the degree of ripeness.
Curiosity:
the vineyard peaches are not a variety, but they are trees scattered among the rows of vines. With these fruits are prepared the typical “Persi Pien”.
It's good because:
they are rich in mineral salts (potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and calcium), fibers, sugars and vitamins (C is the most present). They have antioxidant and diuretic properties. They are hypocaloric fruits.
